Pendant que le gouvernement français plastronne sur la Crimée, l'occupation arménienne (infiniment plus sanglante) du Karabakh continue (dans le silence des mêmes "indignés" à géométrie variable)

Armenian armed forces continue violating ceasefire

18 March 2014, 10:18 (GMT+04:00)

Baku, Azerbaijan, March 18

By Ilkin Izzet - Trend:

Armenian armed forces opened fire at Azerbaijani armed forces positions located in the Tovuz district's Alibeyli village, from the positions located in the Mosesgekh and Aygepar villages of Armenia's Berd district, yesterday and last night, according to a message from Azerbaijani Defense Ministry.

Azerbaijani armed forces positions were also subjected to Armenians' fire from positions near the Horadiz and Gorgan villages of Fizuli district.

The shooting was countered by return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.

Armenian MP against parallels between Nagorno-Karabakh, Crimea

15:34 • 17.03.14

Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, Parliament of Armenia, Artak Zakaryan has suggested that recognition of independent Crimea is not on Armenia’s agenda.

“Different reasons account for each instance of peoples’ exercising their right to self-determination. I would not like to draw parallels with the Nagorno-Karabakh problem because in Crimea’s case it is seceding from one state to join another,” he said.

“World history has shown that the exercise of the right to self-determination is the basis for resolution of different problems,” Zakaryan said.

Expert: Each conflict is settled in a unique way

We should not draw parallels between the Nagorno-Karabakh issue and Crimea. We should not claim that the same will happen in the case of Nagorno-Karabakh or that the Crimea developments can have an impact on the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, political scientist Alexander Manasyan said while commenting on the Ukraine crisis and the March 16 referendum in Crimea.

According to him, each conflict is unique in the global aspect and is settled in a unique way and the main actors show different approaches to different conflicts.

“We should be prepared for a different turn of events. We disarm ourselves by pinning hopes on the Crimea independence,” the expert noted.
